One Vehicle Into A Tree Leaving Driver Trapped

Station 7 was dispatched at 12:32 for a MVA with entrapment in the area of Chestnut St / Shed Rd Union Twp. Upon arrival, Deputy Chief J.Rhoads did a quick scene size up, confirming one male driver trapped in the vehicle. While talking with the bystanders on location, prior to first responder’s arrival, they attempted to remove the patient from the vehicle by cutting his seat belt and pull him out however were unsuccessful. Rescue 7 was given incoming instructions to go in service with the junk yard dogs to stabilize the vehicle and go into service with the rescue tools to start extricating the patient. It took crews approximately 30 minutes to extricate the patient. The driver was transported by Southern Berks EMS to Reading Hospital Trauma Center. The vehicle was removed from the woods and crews checked the area for possible fluids down in which there were not any. The Birdsboro-Union Fire Department was clear from the call and the roadway was reopened at 1355.
