Boro Teenagers Alert Residents of Fire

1554 hrs. While assisting Exeter Twp on an accident, the remainder of Company 7, Quint 6 (Monarch), Tanker 23 (Gibraltar), Engine and Ladder 1 (Mt. Penn) were dispatched to the 700 blk of Chestnut Street, Union Township for a possible Bedroom fire. Rescue 7, Rescue-Engine 25 & Rescue 25 (Exeter Twp.) made the response from the accident in Exeter Twp. FM-29 (K. Templin) arrived to find the correct address to be 750 E. 5th St. He found smoke showing from a bedroom window. Tanker 7 was the first arriving truck, which began to attack the fire from the exterior. Engine 7-1, Rescue-Engine 25, & Rescue 7 arrived shortly after. Rescue-Engine 25 with assistance from Co 7 personnel deployed a handline and quickly extinguished the fire. The fire was contained to the bedroom, and remains under investigation from the Fire Marshall and Boro PD.

Teen resident's of the Boro, Tyler Byrnes and Daniel Reightneour, spotted the fire while walking down the street and alerted the residents. The residents were in the basement and knew nothing of the fire when these young men continually knocked on the resident's door to alert them.
