| 1943: Company 7, Brush 24(Geigertown) and Southern Berks EMS were dispatched to the French Creek State Park in Union Township to assist Park Rangers on a search for multiple lost hikers. Deputy 7(S. Kulp) responded and was advised of two search details for two unrelated hikers. Upon arrival of Deputy 7, one of the lost hikers had already found her way out of the woods. One male was still in the woods and needed assistance. Deputy 7 established Union Command at 1950 and directed all units to stage in the parking lot on Shed Road at Route 345.
Crews from Company 7 and Company 24 gathered at the command post with Park Rangers and a search plan was established. ATV 7 was sent to enter the trails off of Saint Peters Road and crews from 24 entered the trails from Shed Road. Deputy 7 then requested ATV 24, ATV 6(Monarch), and Chester County ATV 69(Twin Valley).
ATV 7 made entry to the Buzzards Trail from an access point on Saint Peters Road and continued on to the Mill Creek Trail where the hiker was last reported to be. After over an hour of searching for the hiker, the hiker reported that he could hear and see the flashing lights of the ATV. A few minutes later, the hiker was located and found to be in good health.
All units then returned to the command post and were available at 2321. |
