By Fire Chief Scott Kulp
August 11, 2011

16:22 Hrs. RT 724 in Union Township was shut down for over an hour this afternoon due to wires down in the roadway. The Department was originally dispatched to RT 724 and River Bridge Rd. for an oversized load that brought down wires. 911 calls indicated that the truck was still moving and heading west towards Birdsboro. Engine 7-1 arrived on RT 724, just east of Shed Rd. with 2 oversized loads tangled in wires. Chief 7 followed by Rescue 7 arrived on location and began investigating the damage. It was quickly determined that the damage stretched for over 4 miles to the Chester County Line. Rescue 7 and Brush 7 redirected eastbound to check for additional damage. The 2 oversized loads brought down approximately 10 utility lines before the vehicles were stopped. Crews confirmed that all lines were telephone and cable TV.
